What is Seal?

What is Seal?

Everyone deserves to get what they pay for. When you pay a high price for a brand-name product, you expect that product to be genuine. When you discover that your upmarket purchase is substandard, you’re either going to realise that you’ve been duped into buying a cheaply-made knock-off or you’re going to lose your trust in the brand. Both cases result in a loss of consumer confidence in the brand and/or the retailer who sold you the counterfeit item.
As frustrating as unintentionally buying a knock-off Gucci handbag or Hugo Boss suit can be, counterfeit goods impact our lives in far more sinister, and even fatal, ways.
At Seal, we’ve devoted ourselves to protecting the value of the world’s most beloved brands. So we developed a product authentication platform that combines two cutting-edge technologies: blockchain and near-field communication (NFC).
Brands will find it easy to add Seal’s supply-chain information into their production and distribution processes. Retailers will be able to integrate it into their ordering and sales systems swiftly. Consumers will appreciate its ease of use and, of course, the assurance that they’re buying genuine brand-name goods. Sellers on the secondary market will value the trust that Seal provides.
Throughout a Seal-authenticated product’s existence, each of its owner can officially register and claim ownership of that product for a micropayment in Seal Tokens (SEAL), facilitating theft protection and insurance processes.
Four components drive the Seal platform:
The Seal Chip is embedded in physical products to identify them and validate their authenticity
The Seal App, which anyone can install on a NFC-compatible smartphone
The Seal Token (SEAL) is the medium of exchange between the different parts of the platform
The Seal Network is an immutable blockchain database, the nodes of which record and validate all transactions involving products containing the Seal Chip
The Seal Network
The Seal ChipThe Seal platform uses NFC-compatible Seal Chips that brands can embed into any manufactured product effectively, securely, and discretely. Once a Seal Chip has been integrated into a product, the brand scans that product to register it in the Seal Network, thereby pairing it with its digital counterpart on Seal’s blockchain. The Seal chip is a custom dynamic chip that generates a unique code with every scan.
Brands are the sole issuers of these product pairings, so they can verify the quantity of authentic products they’ve manufactured and distributed. Counterfeiters cannot replicate the SEAL that product pairings generate, so they will no longer able to pass imitations off as authentic brand-name goods.
The Seal AppThe Seal App is a free user-friendly mobile application that any consumer can install on their smart device. They can then use the app to scan any brand-name item containing the Seal-chip and instantly verify the authenticity of that product.
Wholesale buyers and consumers who want to resell products will also find the app beneficial when selling brand-name goods on secondary markets, where proof of authenticity will increase product value. As Seal’s decentralized platform keeps an unalterable record of each product’s origin and purchase history, securing seller reputation, while assuring buyers that they’re getting genuine branded goods.
The Seal Token (SEAL)Seal’s ultimate goal is to establish its token, SEAL, as the currency of authenticity, optimized for the exchange of consumer products. In this way, SEALs are a medium of exchange. In the future this means that using the SEAL can be used to not only claim ownership, but also to directly pay for products. With regular fiat transactions, there is no way to verify that purchased goods, and the cash used to buy them, are, without a shadow of a doubt, genuine and haven’t been tampered with. Using SEALs to pay for products provides both buyer and seller a guaranteed and tamper-proof means of commerce.
The Seal NetworkNodes in Seal’s blockchain database contain every detail about every product in Seal’s blockchain database. In addition to validations of authenticity and transactions, the Seal-network also verifies proof-of-ownership. Buyers can register their Seal-chip-embedded belongings to help prevent theft, recover stolen goods, and provide easily verifiable information to insurance companies.
A more powerful ally in the fight against counterfeitingFrom royal stamps to QR codes, authenticity protection methods throughout the ages have posed little to no challenge to counterfeiters.
the evolution of anti-counterfeiting
The four components that make up the Seal platform work in harmony to prevent duplication and tampering. While counterfeiters could theoretically create duplicates of even the most secure chips, Seal Chips use a dynamic tap counter that detects tampering and cloning. When a customer taps a product containing a Seal Chip with their mobile device, the tap counter automatically and securely connects them to the Seal Network, which informs them of the product’s authenticity.
Out of love for creationSeal helps you support the brands you love. At the same time, Seal respects and rewards the creators of luxury goods, protecting and increasing the value of the fruits of their craftsmanship and labour.
Seal’s assurance of authenticity will become as important to shoppers as price and consumer reviews. Sellers that sell Seal-validated goods will strengthen their trustworthiness, helping increase their customer acquisition and retention rates. Perhaps most importantly, Seal will express greater appreciation for, and add value to, the efforts of the designers, makers, and all others who create wonderful products. Such motivation, driven by a love of creation, will inspire these talented individuals and teams to take the world’s favourite brands to even greater heights.
